The MPI/PPI-cable Art.No. 9350 connects the programming-device or the PC via the serial interface (COM-connection) with the MPI-interface of an S7-300/400 or with the PPI-interface of an S7-200. The cable automatically detects when plugging in the PLC which PLC-type is connected. The baud-rate (9600 - 115200 bps) of the PC is also detected automatically. The scope of delivery includes the MPI-Speed-driver for the Step7-software from Siemens. This allows the baud-rate on the PC-side to be set to 115.2 KBaud. Otherwise use the standard Siemens baud-rate (maximum 38400). The power-supply gets the MPI/PPI-cable from the PLC and thus requires no external supply. All voltages are galvanically isolated from each other (24V input to the bus and to the internal electronics).
To bridge long distances to a PLC, the optional MPI-NETZ-adapter can be used to feed the 24V.

HMI:
The HMI-variant enables the connection of a control-panel (which does not have an internal MPI-interface, but the HMI-protocol and an RS232-interface) to an S7-300/400. The cable is plugged in between the control-panel and the PLC. The HMI-protocol must be part of the control-panel.
TS:
The TS-variant enables the connection of a modem so that a connection to an S7-300/400 can be established on the PC with the aid of a second modem. The cable is plugged in between the modem and the PLC. In the TS-variant, the PC/MPI-adapter is compatible with the Siemens TS-adapter.

Connecting the adapter
The cable is plugged with the short side into the MPI- or PPI-interface of the PLC. The MPI/PPI-cable is supplied from the PLC and requires no external supply. The cable always needs a PLC because it needs its 24V (or optionally the MPI-NETZ-adapter). The longer cable side is plugged into the PG or into the PC at its COM-port. As soon as the adapter is energized, it will display its software version and begin the functional test of its internal components. It then checks whether the cable is connected to a controller with MPI or PPI bus and adapts to the respective transmission variant. The display window of the MPI/PPI-cable contains all relevant data. In the case of an MPI-connection, the cable automatically finds out and sets the baud-rate parameters for the programming device (PC) during a PG access.
